For those special projects that will bring your own vision to life, we offer custom canvas painting. Our artist, Christie can add initials to existing canvases or stockings, or design anything you can imagine. If you bring in your project, she can take a look and give you an estimate on what it will cost usually based on how long it will take her to paint your canvas. We have gathered some of her projects so you can see how talented she is. But this, too, takes time, so plan ahead.

Christie’s talent enables her to translate most anyone’s vision to canvas with precision and art. A long and winding road has nurtured Christie Root’s talents for custom painted needlepoint canvases.  An opportune summer job on Martha’s Vineyard during her college years was at The Silver Needle, a now closed needlepoint shop.  Christie not only learned to needlepoint at the elbow of the shop owner, but used her interest and talent in art and photography to develop as an in-house canvas painter.   It was a formative and lasting experience that has stayed with her to today.  In the years since, jobs and geographic locations have changed as she married, became a mom to 3 and now a teacher in Baltimore, Maryland.  Christie came to Hillside on the advice of an ardent Baltimore stitcher and it has been a needlepoint match made in heaven.  Her ability to translate artwork to canvas is a special skill that is suited to custom work of all kinds, from logos to portraits from photographs and beyond.
